Patrick Dagg’s (b. 1985, Melbourne) practice diverges from traditional forms of painting and sculpture, instead embracing a collage and symbolism-based language more reflective of the human experience. The artist’s instinctive mixed-media works reflect the realities of our imperfect and data-saturated world. Dagg’s raw works playfully question how we value art and create meaning within our lives.

Dagg holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UNSW Art and Design and a Master of Contemporary Art (Hons. Class 1) from the Victorian College of the Arts. Since joining James Makin Gallery in 2017 he has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions; recently showing a new body of work at Sydney Contemporary 2022, as well as solo shows passages (2021), mongrel (2020), drip (2019) and ditch (2018) at James Makin Gallery, Melbourne.

Patrick Dagg was a finalist in the Footscray Art Prize 2019 and a finalist in the Bayside Acquisitive Art Prize in 2018. Through partnership with Flack Studios, he has exhibited as a part of the Rigg Design Prize in 2019 and The Art of Dining in 2019 at the National Gallery of Victoria. In 2014 he was awarded the Douglas Gordan Fellowship. Dagg’s work is held by Artbank, and in private collections nationally and internationally. Most recently in August 2022 he was featured in Vault Magazine’s ‘Forecast’ as an artist to watch.
